SP BIATHLON 2011

On a bright Saturday morning (only because it was so blasting hot) on the 6th of August 2011 we spent the morning at Singapore Poly for the SP Biathlon.

This was the first biathlon for many of us and we naturally went for the beginner route: 250m Swim, 2km run. Sounds like a piece of cake, doesn't it? NOT(well for me anyways). Other brave contestants such as Issac, Jin and Cass took the slightly longer route of 450m swim and 3.3km route while the BRAVEST OF THE BRAVEST( and the most hiong of all) UNCLE XQ & SAM took the longest route of 750m Swim and 6.3km run.

However, while we all met at 8.05am at the DOVER MRT STATION, majority of our events would only begin in the late morning/afternoon but NO WORRIES:) we took lots of pictures :D enjoy:)

Jeff and Sean showing their love for each other:)

Everyone before their event...
... and everyone after. (GROUP SHOT)

Lastly, Cass and Jin were 1st and 3rd respectively for their category and Hui Hiang came in 1st for her category as well. CONGRATS u guys:)

All in all, it was a great experience and I've learnt that as little as 2km sounds (lesser than the usual 2.4) it ain't no joke to run after swimming. Phew, gotta train up for whatever comes!

Saturday's training was different than usual, we were in school to have a round of friendlies with NTU, SIM & NP. This was specially put up to allow the Year 1s to gain exposure and tips as well as to learn what it's like to take part in a competition.

This was a learning experience for all the Year 1s and it also gave us a chance to bond with the Yr2s more:) We learnt and we had fun under the sun:) Hopefully we will have more of these friendlies so that we can learn more as well as meet more new people:D

team republic lifesaving 2011.
this welcomed the juniors to the competitive side of lifesaving as a sport. i hope that after watching us all compete, you guys are more motivated to train harder and create a piece of history with the team.

it's never easy to build up a team. it's never easy to keep people with us and it's definitely not easy to bring home medals all the time. but that's really besides the point. we want more than just medals. we want a team that's not just strong physically but mentally as well. that's what being a lifesaver is about. you can't just be fit and expect to save someone. you need strategies as well, you need to be able to think and react on the spot.

i guess what i am also trying to say is that this is our 2nd home, we are a team and we should all learn to be in harmony. the occasional sibling squabbles and disputes are all right but at the end of the day we should all come home and give each other a hug and be there for each other. we stay together, we aren't in this alone. lifesaving is not an individual sport but a team sport. you'll see that at the end of the day you'll need to look out for one another. everyone's an equal in the team and there really isn't a thing such as who's better that who.

there'll be many upcoming events that we can all take part together and i do hope that we can all take this chances to bond better :) nationals are coming up to so let's train hard together as well. we'll have plenty of fun along the way no doubt!
